Wishlist Wednesday: It Was All Yellow

I took an unintentional extra long weekend from blogging. I’d like to say I went somewhere glamorous and tropical, but unless you call Kansas City either of those I did not. I did, however, have lots of fun hanging out with my friends, eating yummy food, losing money to poker, and not tanning by the pool. This is the kind of busy I like.

Yesterday’s prompt on Bow Ties and Bettys #StyleMeMay was an oldest piece, and the prompt for Modly Chic’s #FBPhotoADayMay was covet. Between those two, I came up with this outfit, with this old yellow Gap cardigan and a new Old Navy maxi dress. The oldest piece is obviously the cardigan, and the “covet” is its color.

I’ve wanted to add more yellow pieces to my closet lately: it’s such a fun, cheerful, summery color. It also ties right into the trend of the month link up at Marionberry Style, which is the color yellow.

Summer Begins with Memorial Day

My summer has officially begun! I always have some sort of part-time job during the summer, but this summer I decided not to work. This will probably be my last summer “off” so I might as well enjoy it. Well, enjoy it but also work my butt off trying to find a job (which can be a job in itself).

Although my summer has already started, this weekend will be its official kickoff, with Memorial Day on Monday. I’m not entirely sure what I’ll be doing, but most likely it will be barbecuing and hanging out with friends.

A Shopping Meetup at Madewell

Last Thursday I met up with a few other bloggers (Sandy a la Mode, Pretty, Polished, Perfect, Peridot Skys, and A Dash of Details) to attend a nationwide Style Session event at Madewell. Along with having lots of fun hanging out with those awesome ladies, I also picked up a few great pieces.

One thing I purchased was this white blazer, an item I’ve had on my spring wishlist for a while now. It was a little bit more than what I usually spend, but when I found out I got a 20% discount for being a teacher I decided to go for it. I can tell it’s going to get lots of wear, so I think it was a good investment.

I also got a chambray button up and a pair of white jeans, both of which I’ll show off soon. Although I’m very happy with my new purchases, it was hard to leave so many other things behind. So this week I’m adding some of the other pieces that caught my eye at Madewell to my (semi-) weekly wishlist.

Bitter and Sweet

This is my last week of school, I can’t believe it! While I’m very happy with the decision I made, I know that this week will be very bittersweet. I’m not ready to say goodbye to some of the wonderful people I’ve met this year, and as much as I’ve complained about how crazy the kids have been, I will miss (most of) them terribly!

This weekend was finally a relaxing one. Let me tell you, it felt great. Friday night we hung out with friends, and Saturday we had a much-needed date night. We went to The Boot, an Italian restaurant. I chowed down on a prosciutto pizza topped with arugala, while Aaron put away some Cacio e Pepe (cheese and pepper) pasta. Yum!

Can't Live Without It

Before the school year started, I searched up and down for the perfect classic, long-sleeved white button down shirt. In my mind, it was a work wardrobe essential, and something I would wear all the time. I found it, and I’ve maybe worn it twice.

Around the same time, I snagged my chambray button-up shirt from Old Navy for around ten bucks, thinking, this chambray trend might pass so I don’t want to spend a lot of money on it. Yet the number of times I’ve worn it doesn’t even compare to that of the white button up. I’ve even considered buying a second chambray shirt since I wear this one so much.

To me, the lesson learned is that a list of wardrobe essentials isn’t necessarily universal. I’m glad I got a great deal on this shirt, but I shouldn’t have worried that chambray was a passing fad. I think, or at least I hope, that it’s here to stay.
