It’s September
already, can you believe it? August was fun, but I’m ready for cooler weather
and fall fashion. Before I move on though, here’s a roundup of what I wore,
read, and bought last month.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern: I read this for my book club and I really liked it.
The story itself was a little disappointing, but the beautiful way it was
written more than made up for it. I’m glad I read it.
Explosive Eighteen by Janet Evanovich: last year I got hooked on this series (the “Stephanie Plum”
books) and listened to them in my car on my commute to work. These are always
fun, quick reads, and number 18 did not disappoint.
The Last Letter from Your Lover by JoJo Moyes: my friend Victoria recommended this book,
and as usual she was right. In the 1960s in England, a married woman suffering
from amnesia after a car accident discovers letters written to her from an
unknown lover. Her life takes on new meaning as she tries to discover the
identity of the letter-writer. Moyes tells their bittersweet tale along with the
story of a journalist who discovers the letters many years later. I can’t say
enough about this book, I loved it!
The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest by Stieg Larsson: I
read the first book of this trilogy in June, and finally picked up the other two last
month. I enjoyed all three books, but these last two were my favorites because of
their focus on the intriguing Lisbeth Salander. In the second book, she
unknowingly gets caught up in an investigation of the sex-trafficking business
in Sweden and winds up a murder suspect. In the finale, she is fighting for her
life and her innocence, and surprisingly (to her) she has a team of supporters
helping her every step of the way.
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn: This was my book club’s pick for September, and it took me all
of two days to read. On the day of their 5th anniversary, Nick’s
wife Amy turns up missing. Nick’s strange behavior and repeated lies make him
look guilty as can be. But just when I thought I had it all figured out, Flynn
throws in a major curve-ball of a plot twist that had me thinking “What the…?”
This book was crazy, but it was a heck of a fun read!

Favorite new (to me) blog: Henry Happened, a blog that combines
style, DIY, and lifestyle elements in a fun to read, creative way.
