Not Very Spooky

La mode: Happy Halloween! I hate to be a bore, but other than handing out candy to trick-or-treaters, I’m doing absolutely nothing for Halloween this year. I’ve been too busy to even put together a costume, so I suppose it’s a good thing that Halloween falls on a Monday.

Blouse: Old Navy; cords: Gap; necklace: Towne & Reese via Style Obsession giveaway; flats: Gap

I guess I can’t say I did nothing for Halloween—I did work the concession stands at a junior high haunted house for a French Department fundraiser. But since the only people dressed up were the people working in the haunted house, I’m not sure it counts. The spookiest part of the night for me was the overcooked, congealed nacho cheese.

Today’s Inspiration Monday look is the one above of Jaime King. Since the only pair of red pants I own is a much more casual pair, I did a dressed down version of her look. To see more Inspiration Monday looks, be sure to check out the Two Birds blog.

Any Halloween plans for you tonight?

Greatest Hits

La mode: If I could gather up some of my favorite things right now, and put them all in one look, this would be it. First of all there are stripes and leopard, which are fabulous on their own, but put them together and (in the words of What Not to Wear’s Stacey London) shut up

Cardigan: Target (old); striped tee: Gap (also old); cords: Loft; shoes: Merona, Target; (inspired by this look of Meggy's from Chasing Davies)

Those two things would be good enough, but for me it gets even better when you add a cozy, thick cardigan and comfy yet polished corduroys. Add a funky but delicate necklace (my score from last weekend’s shopping expedition) to really gild the lily.

Necklace: Poppy Madison (I can't find a website, or I'd link to it)

So what are you gravitating towards right now? Other than the weekend, of course, which has finally arrived. I hope you have a good one!

Nobody Told Me There'd Be Days Like These

Quel jour! [What a day!]: I wore this on Friday, which is why I’m smiling so big in my photo. I was too tired to even take pictures today…it was one of those days, you know what I mean?

Sweater: Isaac Mizrahi for Target; tank top: Old navy; jeans: Loft; necklace: Anthropologie; boots: Mia via DSW

So this will be a short post, because the only prescription for a day like this is a bowl of ice cream and lots of sleep. I’ve taken care of the former, and hopefully the latter isn’t far away. By the time you’re reading this, I’ll be refreshed and ready for a new day.

I love the combination of orange and turquoise in the summer, so I figured I needed to find a way to make it work for fall too. With the addition of brown and gray, I think this color combination is ready for fall, and so am I!

La nourriture: And this, my friends, is the perfect recipe for one of those days. It’s quick, it’s easy, and it’s undeniably delicious. (Bow Tie "Lasagna": Get it here at Tasty Kitchen.) Enjoy!

Song: Nobody Told Me by John Lennon (Yep, I'm bringing back the songs! But maybe not every day.)

Shopping, Pumpkins and Squirrels

Le week-end: It’s never a good sign when I’m worn out before Monday even begins, but that seems to be the case this week. What a busy weekend! Friday night Aaron and I enjoyed some Thai food and then decorated some pumpkins. Unfortunately, my pumpkin is the only one that survived the weekend. We came home Saturday evening to find a squirrel nibbling on Aaron’s pumpkin; he must have been pretty hungry, because he left a huge hole where the face once was!

T-shirt: Old Navy; sweater: Forever 21; jeans: Loft; flats: Gap

Saturday I did some shopping with my best friend Abby and her mom. We went to Holiday Mart, a shopping extravaganza (read: convention center filled with booth after booth of jewelry, home décor, food, etc.) put on by the Junior League of Kansas City. While I did splurge and buy myself one thing, the rest of my purchases were Christmas gifts. (I know, I'm so good.)

I wore this comfortable, shopping-ready outfit on Saturday. It was inspired by this week’s Inspiration Monday picture (above) of Sarah Jessica Parker. Be sure to check out more looks inspired by this one at Two Birds blog!

And here's Aaron's pumpkin, pre-squirrel. Scary right?

Here's mine. I give you: Miu Miu pumkin! If I had more time, I would have liked to add another one with an allover cat print, and maybe bats (which I realize isn't Miu Miu, but it is Halloween-y) too. But I was DONE after all those swallows.

I'm also linking up to the Monday Mingle at Bon Bon Rose Girls, where they're featuring a comfy, cozy look I want to wear right now!

Fabulous Fall Friday

La mode: It’s finally Friday! After a four day week last week, these five days felt more like ten. As usual, I’m looking forward to the weekend. Tonight, Aaron and I are going out to dinner and then we’re going to hunt down a pumpkin. Our house is in desperate need of some Halloween décor, and I’d like to do more, but a few pumpkins are better than nothing.

Cardigan: Target; t-shirt: Anthropologie; jeans: Gap; necklace: Paris; boots: Franco Sarto via Macy's, gift

This outfit turned out a bit gloomier than I’d intended, but boy was I cozy all day. My inspiration was this look I saw on Fab Finds Under $50. I had originally planned to wear flats rather than boots, but my feet were so cold yesterday morning I couldn’t bring myself to leave them uncovered.

It’s supposed to warm up a little this weekend, so maybe I can give my boots a little break. I’m not making any promises though; I love how warm they make my feet! Well, I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

A squirrel was taunting me when I was taking pictures beneath his tree. I couldn't stop laughing. I'm convinced it's the same one that constantly teases my dog.

Land and Sea

La mode: I waited as long as I could, but I finally had to break out the tights. I try to hold out as long as possible, since I know it will be months until my bare legs see the light of day. But it’s been quite chilly these past few days, so I had to give in to my hatred of being cold.

Jacket: Forever 21; dress: Target; belt: Old Navy; tights: Gap; boots: Mia via DSW

We’re still trying to put off turning on the heater though, and tights won’t keep my hands from freezing as I sit here at the computer. However, a glass of red wine usually warms up what the tights can’t, so I suppose I’ll force myself to have one.

Now that I’ve stepped through the tights door, I’m hoping to find many more pairs that will get me through fall and winter. But other than at Gap, I haven’t had much luck with finding good quality, affordable pairs. Where do you go to buy tights you love?

La nourriture: Miraculously, I have a meal to share. I’ve had such a difficult time lately getting good food photos. Luckily, I was able to snap a decent (although still not spectacular) picture of the salmon I made for dinner a few nights ago.

The recipe is Teriyaki Salmon with Sriracha Mayo from Budget Bytes blog. The teriyaki marinade gave the fish so much flavor, and the creamy, spicy mayonnaise was the perfect accompaniment. Served with rice, this was a delicious, healthy weeknight meal.
